LBW #89, “How Good, Lord, to Be Here!”
Devotion
How good, Lord, to be here!
Yet we may not remain;
But since you bid us leave the mount,
Come with us to the plain. (v.5)
The plain is plain indeed, unless there is someone with us to make the journey interesting. Life with Jesus is always interesting, maybe even a little dangerous, but never dull. Jesus makes the world come alive for us even on the plain.
Jesus says, “Feel the wind, God’s Spirit, blowing where it wills.”
“Do you see the fields white unto harvest?” Jesus asks.
The plain is not empty. Jesus points to tender creatures moving over the surface, and just under the surface, people whom we might never notice if it weren’t for the company of Jesus. Far away from the splendor of the vision, Jesus comes with us and brings us to God, even in a place where there seems to be nothing.
Prayer
Lord, is there anything interesting going on around me today that I should be paying attention to?
