Verse 15For we are aliens and transients before you, as were all our ancestors; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
Devotion
During Lent our worship takes on a new intensity and faithfulness. One of the many gifts of worship is a greater awareness that life is a gift of God. Through worship we look up, beyond ourselves, and discover again our dependency on God. The great king of Israel, David, acknowledged this truth. All that we have and are comes from God’s loving hand. Like our ancestors, we rely on God. David knows that with days on earth like a shadow, we have no claim on the land, or life, or, in his case, even a throne. Left to ourselves there is no hope; our true hope is in God whom we worship and adore.
Prayer
We thank you for the opportunity to worship you, O Lord, and for the many blessings worship brings into our lives. As we worship, lead us to rediscover our humble dependence on your grace and the true hope we have in you alone. Amen.
