John 12:35 (NRSV)

Verse 35Jesus said to them, "The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.
Devotion
Shouldn’t this verse say, “if you walk in darkness you do not see where you are going”? It seems to make more sense. What does darkness have to do with knowledge? Quite a bit if Christ is light and darkness is the absence of Christ. When we are separated from Christ by sin, it can be harder to really know what God is calling us to, to really know where we are walking. Thankfully, Christ’s love is constant when we are able to turn back and see God, the path becomes well-lit again.
Prayer
Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (LBW 153)
