I Love to Tell the Story, ELW 661
Devotion
I love to tell the story. There is a great joy and honor in sharing the story of Jesus' life, ministry, death and resurrection with others. I love to tell this story, and as a pastor I get daily opportunities to tell people about "Jesus and his love" (v. 1). But, to state the obvious, pastors are not the only people who love this story, nor are we the only people who tell the story.
All of us get daily opportunities to tell people about "Jesus and his love." We all know people—maybe someone you will talk with today—who need to hear about the grace, peace and love of God we have through Jesus.
You do not need to invite these people to church, convince them about doctrine or convert them to Christianity. That is the work of the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit moves where and when She wills. Instead, you can simply tell someone who is hurting that God is present; someone who is lonely that God is loving; someone who is sick that God is caring.
Take joy in this ministry of storytelling, for the gospel message has the power to satisfy longings "as nothing else would do" (v. 1).
Prayer
God, let me tell the story of your love through all I say, think and do this day. Amen.
