I’m So Glad Jesus Lifted Me (ELW 860)
1 I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
2 Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
3 When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me.
singing glory, hallelujah!
Jesus lifted me.
Devotion
This African American spiritual reminds us to join in celebrating the many times that Jesus has been there to lift us up when we were low—and that he promises to do so again. For all of us, no matter what we are going through, whether in times of trouble or when we find ourselves serving Satan instead of God, then Jesus is there to lift us up. This week we have thought a lot about God’s promises and gifts to us and that reminder continues in this simple yet profound spiritual. God lifts us up when we most need it; God helps us when we cannot help ourselves; God delivers and frees us from the things that tempt us most. Through it all God is there, loving us, just as we are! Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Thank you, Jesus, for lifting me from my burdens and giving me hope. Help me to bring hope to others along the way. Amen.
