My Life Flows On in Endless Song (ELW 763)
1 My life flows on in endless song;
above earth’s lamentation,
I catch the sweet, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.
Refrain
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I’m clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?
2 Through all the tumult and the strife,
I hear that music ringing.
It finds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing? (Refrain)
3 What though my joys and comforts die?
The Lord my Savior liveth.
What though the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth. (Refrain)
4 The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
a fountain ever springing!
All things are mine since I am his!
How can I keep from singing? (Refrain)
Devotion
“Jesus is the only reason I have for believing that life is eternally meaningful, worthwhile, and beautiful regardless of all outward evidence that occurs to the contrary. He has come into my life through many marvelous persons and life experiences. He has also revealed his creative power and redemptive authority in and through experiences that do not appear at the time to be beautiful, worthwhile, and meaningful. If it were not for my commitment, I would have on many occasions given up. In other words, frequently my weaknesses and problems have been the context in which his power and glory has become manifested.”
During my first call (1976-1979) to Our Redeemer Lutheran, Ballard, WA, I served with Harald S. Sigmar (1917-2013), who quickly became a mentor and a dear cherished friend. A few years later, I asked Harald if he would write a brief statement describing his faith. “Sure!” he replied, and the preceding paragraph is his written response to my request. That first call experience with Harald has been followed by blessings multiplied and countless opportunities to be thankful since that time in Ballard.
Prayer
Faithful God, our hearts are filled with thanks for the “saints” you have placed in our lives to journey along our life’s steps with us. May we share the blessings we have received through them with others who we meet on our journey of faith! In Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen.
