About a year ago, Luther Seminary announced a major decision. In May 2025, our board voted to sell our current campus and begin seeking a new space from which to fulfill our mission to educate leaders for the church. We knew then that we would soon be concluding our time on this historic campus in St. Paul.

A year ago, we had more questions than answers. Today, Luther Seminary’s next steps are beginning to come into focus. This month, we finalized the sale of our historic “Upper Campus” in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood, though we will remain in place until the end of this academic year under a lease agreement with the new owners.

At this time, we are also in the final stages of negotiating a multi-decade lease at a property in downtown Minneapolis where Luther Seminary will make its new campus home. Housing for our residential students will be provided at nearby Augsburg University, about a mile away. Renovations to our new campus will take place this winter and spring. We can’t wait to tell you more about our new location and how our plans for robust community life there are unfolding. Even good decisions can be difficult. It will not be easy to say goodbye to this beloved place. A priority for us this year is to ensure that we honor and make space for grief even as we orient our work toward a hopeful future. Opportunities for alumni and friends to visit campus throughout this year are listed on our website: luthersem.edu/campuscelebrations. We hope alumni, friends, and neighbors will make time to join us for worship, a meal, a conversation, or just a walk around the campus as we prepare to leave this place that is so full of memories for each of us.

We continue to step forward into a time of uncertainty—knowing a little more every day where the road is leading but still awaiting the realization of many important details. Along the way, we trust in God’s faithfulness. Thank you for your faithful support of Luther Seminary’s mission.
