Verse 20The Jews then said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?" Verse 21But he was speaking of the temple of his body. Verse 22After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
Verse 23When he was in Jerusalem during the Passover festival, many believed in his name because they saw the signs that he was doing. Verse 24But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people Verse 25and needed no one to testify about anyone; for he himself knew what was in everyone.
Devotion
If you’ve never had a hot shower after a long desert journey you wouldn’t know how good it feels. All the talk in the world would not convey the energy that comes from water on skin, or from clean hair shaken dry like a shaggy dog. The temple of Jesus’ body was the same way. Before the baptism that was his death, the disciples could not understand. Before the baptism that washes us clean, we cannot understand either.
Prayer
O Lord, your temple will be raised, and we will live. May we believe, even in these days. Amen.
