Chapter 12"At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Verse 2Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Verse 3Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
Devotion
In the book of Daniel, we learn for the first time in the Bible that angels have names. One of the angels named in Daniel is Michael, whose name in Hebrew means, "Who is like God?"
Angels are given the privilege of being God's obedient messengers and, as such, they are to give glory to God in all that they say and do. Even the somewhat rhetorical question which forms Michael's name performs that function of giving glory to God. "Who is like God?" The only possible answer is "Nobody!" God is unique!
As we go about our daily work during this week which now unfolds before us, may all that we say and do proclaim the greatness and the uniqueness of God. Truly, there is nobody like God.
Prayer
Great God, we praise you for your uniqueness, greatness and mercy. Draw our hearts and minds continually to you, that we may give you glory in all that we think, say and do. Amen.
