LBW #318, “The Lord Will Come and Not Be Slow”
Devotion
As Jesus sat with his disciples on the Mount of Olives, looking across the Kidron Valley toward the temple mount in Jerusalem, the disciples had a question which people have been asking since time immemorial. Their question in Mark 10:4 concerned God's timetable for future events. And Jesus' answer to their question is akin to the message of "The Lord Will Come and Not Be Slow."
It takes faith to trust that God will carry out the plan for our salvation in the best way and at the best time. As we interact with God's Word today through word and sacrament, may our faith in God's plan of action be strengthened. Let us not be concerned with questions of "when." The best question to ask is, "Lord God, how may I best be used to accomplish what you know needs to be done here on earth?"
Prayer
O Lord, we pray that soon there shall come the time when your will is done here on earth as it is in heaven. Use us as you will, in the ways that you know are best, to accomplish your good purpose here among us. Amen.
