Devotion
As a young boy, I spent a weekend with a friend whose family had a summer home on the south Jersey shore. Their sitting room looked out on the Atlantic Ocean, and nothing but sand separated the house from the pounding surf.
Three-foot waves are irresistible to eleven-year-old boys, even when one cannot swim. So we stood, feet firmly planted in the wet sand, and let the waves crash over us. I can still recall the thrill of fear as the surf pounded my shoulders in one direction, while the small, but strong, undertow tore at my ankles, threatening to drag me out into the seemingly endless sea.
Yet, when the waves subsided, the sand was still there. My friend’s house loomed over us, and peace returned to the beach and to my heart. Nothing had moved; all was right. I was okay. The Lord reigns, yesterday, today and forever.
Prayer
Thank you, God, for being a loving, caring Creator. Thank you for protecting and guiding me in every way. Amen.
