LBW #463, "God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens"
Devotion
My colleague, John Ferguson, takes us on a wild ride through space with his organ playing for this hymn. It is remarkable to think of viewing the cosmos up close and being part of the whole of it. This is an active hymn. God flings and stretches and invents. And God gives us power to do things, to imagine ourselves alongside comets and planets, to think and invent and discover the wonders of the universe so graciously given. When we stop to consider, it is amazing how much power we are given. How will we use it? To create, construct, encourage, erase or destroy?
Prayer
Great Creator, give us guidance till our goals and yours are one. Amen.
(prayer from last phrase of God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens, text by Catherine Cameron)
