Verse 4But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Verse 5in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. Verse 6And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Verse 7So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.
Devotion
As a little child, I once sat at the feet of an elderly man as he told stories of living in an orphanage. He remembered how he longed to be in a family, but it never seemed to be the right time. Other children would come and go. He began to wonder if he was good enough. Then, one day, a couple came to his room. Without mincing words, the man lovingly said, “Son, would you like to come home with us?” Those were words Francis had waited so long to hear.
God knew the perfect time to send Jesus into the world. There is not any part of our lives that Jesus didn’t experience and live for us. Look to God in the flesh, born to Mary. Look to the cross and the empty tomb and know just how much God loves that we could become God’s own.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we rejoice that you love us so much that you did everything for us to keep us as your own. We rejoice and give thanks for the gift of a Savior who brings forgiveness and love to the family of believers in your Son, Jesus Christ. You did it all at just the right time. Amen.
