Chapter 4Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries. Verse 2Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. Verse 3But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. Verse 4I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Verse 5Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God.
Devotion
When you see a soldier in dress uniform, take a look at all the ribbons, medals and badges they wear. Those badges are a public reward for faithful service or valor, and every other soldier can recognize the things they have done by the decorations they wear.
Then I think about my wife, Michelle. She ran our household and raised our three kids without me for nearly two years, yet I’m the one who received all the ribbons and awards and medals. I’m the one who gets invited to speak at conventions, or to write for God Pause, even though she survived a trial just as tough. She deserves far more praise than she gets.
So do a lot of people. If the words of 1 Corinthians are true, that praise is not lost; it is just delayed until the day when you hear it from the mouth of God.
Prayer
God, remind me that in spite of my sin, you still find things in my life for which I will someday receive your praise.
