Devotion
“When you’re up to your eyeballs in alligators,” the saying goes, “it’s hard to remember that you came to drain the swamp.” We would not blame the psalmist if he went on and on about his enemies. Alligators abound, after all, and they have a way of demanding attention. Yet after verse 3, Psalm 25 speaks only once more about enemies. There are paths of the Lord to follow, and so the psalmist turns from the request about foes and asks for guidance for his own way. It is not that the foes are not a threat. They are just not any longer the focus of the prayer. God is more than an enforcer against enemies. God is a trail guide leading away from danger to truth.
Prayer
Come, O Christ, our way. Lead us into truth and life. Amen.
