In All Our Grief, ELW 615

Devotion
Our community recently experienced two tragedies on the same day: a 15-year old killed by a suspected drunk driver as she was walking home from church, and a father and husband murdered at home during a robbery, just a mile away from our church building. As the community of faith gathered to worship the following Sunday, the words of this hymn gave us language to sing our prayers for healing, for wholeness and for peace.
As the hymn says, we turn to God in all our grief and fear. We trust that God knows all our suffering and pain and will not leave us. God have mercy and grant us peace.
Prayer
Healing God, no matter the tragedies, suffering or pain we experience, we trust that you are made known in times of distress. As our strength runs low, we pray that you would comfort us and that faithful friends might speak of your promised peace as they accompany us in love. Amen.
