Devotion
The number of contenders for the office of the President of the United States could reach the hundreds. There may be no heavier job description, so why the interest? Perhaps each has altruistic motivations to make this a better world. Or perhaps ego is the motivation; who wouldn't want to be the most powerful person in the (free) world?
Rock group Tears for Fears sang some time ago, "Everybody wants to rule the world." From the perspective of faith there is only one who rules the world. It is the one to whom superlatives are given—"All your works shall give thanks to you;" "faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds;" "The Lord upholds all who are falling;" "The Lord is just in all his ways."
From the beginnings in Genesis, when God puts it all into action, until Revelation, when God brings it all to completion, the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. All contenders (and pretenders) do best to remember this.
Prayer
Guide the wills and desires of those who lead, O Lord, that all might know of your goodness and all might receive your justice. Amen.
