Devotion
There are moments in the busy pace of life that my soul cries out for mercy; and I find, sometimes without realizing it, I am in a similar place to Bartimaeus. Don’t get me wrong, I don't mean to draw too simple a comparison between my weariness and being blind. However, too often we are not able to see the similarities of our own stories in the witness of scripture because we do not see in them experiences we might identify as "miraculous," or worthy of Hollywood's special effects. I think even in the busy, weary pace of life, being drawn into the presence of Jesus for a word of encouragement and blessing is a noteworthy occasion in this life with God. I am thankful for these moments, even if they are brief, when I hear clearly those inviting words of promise.
Prayer
Generous God, give me rest when my soul is weary. Breathe life into me and inspire me to work anew for peace and justice in this world. Amen.
