Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 886)
1 Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and king, the triumphs of his grace!
2 My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,
to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of your name.
3 The name of Jesus charms our fears and bids our sorrows cease,
sings music in the sinner’s ears, brings life and health and peace.
4 He speaks, and list’ning to his voice, new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe.
5 Look unto him, your Savior own, O fallen human race!
Look and be saved through faith alone, be justified by grace!
6 To God all glory, praise, and love be now and ever giv’n
by saints below and saints above, the church in earth and heav’n.

Devotion
Can you believe the words we have heard in our readings this week? We have heard how our God is merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. We have heard that our God does not leave us as orphans but adopts us and makes us heirs to the kingdom. We already are gifted with eternal life, which goes on forever. We have heard how each and every day God is patient with us as wheat and weeds growing in God’s kingdom field. We have also learned that we are called to be witnesses concerning all these wonderful gifts. My first response to all this good news is to sing God’s praises. Please join me in singing today’s hymn as that response!
Prayer
Oh God, we come before you with thanksgiving and joy for who you are and what you have given us. Your grace is so amazing! May we share your love through our actions, our words, and our songs so others may be drawn to your presence through our witness in the week ahead. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
