God of Grace and God of Glory (ELW 705, Verse 1)
1 God of grace and God of glory,
on your people pour your pow’r,
crown your ancient church’s story;
bring its bud to glorious flow’r.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.
Devotion
It’s been over a year since many of us started to “shelter in place” and follow recommended restrictions. Now that vaccinations are available, there are more options to consider for our daily lives. After all this time of being conditioned to avoid contact with others, it’s scary to contemplate going out into society again.
There are so many decisions to make about what activities are safe for members of our congregation. There are so many details to consider for gatherings that it is overwhelming. As leaders in faith communities, we feel so responsible to take care of our people.
It helps to remember that we are God’s people. It is Christ’s Church and we are guided by Jesus’ Spirit as we move forward. This hymn implores the Lord to pour God’s power on the church. We sing our prayer for wisdom and courage to the One who gives grace and mercy.
Prayer
Holy Gardner, cultivate your church that we may bloom and grow. May the glorious flowers of your garden spread wildly into the community to bring joy for all. Bless the extended ministries of feeding with abundance. Amen.
