Devotion
“We were served as customers not so long ago
Now we are all waiters, thought you ought to know”
The above words are from the chorus of “The Best Stuff in The World Today Café.” This song begins with one person being hungry and going into the Best Stuff in the World Today Café to eat. After being fed with all he needs, he then welcomes others to the café and serves them. And when they are fed, they welcome and serve more. And when they are fed… And when they are fed… Before long, the business, in the words of the song, “went berserk.”
After seventy-two years, I’ve had a lot of realism about life pounded into me, but I still have a very healthy dose of idealism. This song speaks to how God wants us to live: in service to others. If I, and everyone else in the world, keep busy helping my neighbors with their needs, surely some of them would be busy helping me with my needs.
Prayer
Holy Lord, you welcomed us and fed us all we need, give us the courage to welcome others and feed them all they need. Amen.
