My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 596)
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
No merit of my own I claim,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
(Refrain)
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
In ev’ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil. (Refrain)
His oath, his covenant, his blood
Sustain me in the raging flood;
When all supports are washed away,
He then is all my hope and stay. (Refrain)
When he shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then with him be found,
Clothed in his righteousness alone,
Redeemed to stand before the throne! (Refrain)

Devotion
Many of my family, friends, and others within my sphere of influence, share a common concern for those institutions that have been the mainstays of our culture. Those that seemed solid and unquestionable are shaking as from an earthquake. The government, courts, banking institutions, media, even the church are all swaying. Will they topple? We do have a human tendency to concentrate only on those things that are within our scope. Is there anything that we can fully trust? Our hymn offers an answer:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
Prayer
Lord, you cautioned your disciple Peter about concern for things of this world and not about those from above. As the Centurion prayed, We believe, help our unbelief. Amen.
