What Wondrous Love Is This (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 666)
1 What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul?
2 When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
when I was sinking down, sinking down,
when I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.
3 To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme, I will sing.
4 And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on;
and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing God’s love for me,
and through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
and through eternity I’ll sing on.

Devotion
In college, as the band stage manager, I was complimented by the director for how I stood back, saw the big picture, and directed others to do the work.
Christ does not sit back and direct others. He gets right in our messes with us. He takes on the dreadful curse of our sins in words and deeds, and allows himself to be nailed to a cross. Christ is our best director ever. He will never leave us. So let us allow his directing skills to lead us. The music we make together will sing from the highest trees to the lowest depths of the oceans about his melodies of peace, love, and goodwill towards others.
Prayer
Good and gracious God, as our leader you get right next to us and direct us. Direct us daily to your music which sings loud and clear of everlasting love and forgiveness. Amen.
