Verse 1Be pleased, O God, to deliver me. O Lord, make haste to help me!
Verse 2Let those be put to shame and confusion who seek my life. Let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who desire to hurt me.
Verse 3Let those who say, "Aha, Aha!" turn back because of their shame.
Verse 4Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation say evermore, "God is great!"
Verse 5But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!
Devotion
In our culture, very few people are naturally gifted with patience. We are accustomed to immediate gratification of many of life’s hungers. Yet, we all encounter times in which we must wait … and wait … and wait some more. The psalmist helps us cry out to God in those times when we feel isolated or discouraged. As those who know the promise of Christ’s resurrection, even in the middle of Holy Week we may say, “O Lord, do not delay!”
Prayer
God, do you hear me? Do you understand how discouraged I feel at times? Come to me, O God, for I trust that with you I am always safe and have all that I need. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
