Verse 10Put no confidence in extortion, and set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
Verse 11Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,
Verse 12and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord. For you repay to all according to their work.
Devotion
A small boy, after his boat capsized in a lake, managed to swim to the safety of a huge rock rising above the water. When he was rescued after spending an entire night in darkness, he was asked, “Lad, didn’t you tremble on that rock during the night?” “Sure,” he replied, “I trembled, but that rock didn’t move the whole night through.” The Psalmist, having found refuge in God, declared that, “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress: I shall never be shaken.”
“Trust in him at all times,” the Psalmist writes, and cautions against putting confidence in extortion, robbery, or riches. More than once the writer has heard that power belongs to God. We are privileged to hear that same truth and are blessed when God’s love moves us to seek our only refuge in him.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you that you are our rock and our fortress which cannot be moved. Amen.
