LBW #493, "Hope of the World"
Devotion
When East and West Germany were reunited and the Soviet Union collapsed, I was ready to believe that the world was about to know earthly peace. I never expected either one of those events to ever take place - at least in my lifetime. But that hope for earthly peace did not last too long, for soon we heard of other places in the world where conflict raged and terrorism threatened, and that brought new fears to our hearts. Those conflicts are a reminder that there is only one abiding hope for this world and that is in the Christ of great compassion.
Prayer
Almighty and everlasting Lord, speak to our fearful hearts and save us from false hopes, so that we will find peace in our compassionate Christ Jesus. Amen.
