LBW #543, "Praise to the Lord, The Almighty"
Devotion
Based on two Doxology (Praise) Psalms (103 and 150), Praise to the Lord, the Almighty is one of the great hymns of the Church and appropriately represents the meaning of Psalm 113, Sunday’s Psalm.
Dwelling on the second line of verse 2, we are reminded of the grace given us by a God who is beyond our ability to praise him: "Have you not seen, all that is needful has been sent by his gracious ordaining."
Verse 3 continues in the vein of Paul’s words to Timothy in this Sunday’s second lesson: "Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you. Ponder anew, what the almighty can do, if with his love he befriend you." God desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of his truth, for there is but one God and one mediator between God and humankind: Jesus Christ who gave himself as a ransom for all.
Prayer
Help me to ponder anew the wonders of your love, O Lord, and let all that is within me bless His holy name. Amen.
