God Calling Yet
Devotion
God calling yet; shall I not hear?
Earth's pleasures shall I still hold dear?
Shall life’s swift passing years all fly,
and still my soul in slumbers lie?
God calling yet; shall I not rise?
Can I His loving voice despise,
and basely His kind care repay?
He calls me still; can I delay?
God calling yet; and shall he knock,
and I my heart the closer lock?
He still is waiting to receive,
and shall I His Spirit grieve?
This week’s bible texts are all wake-up calls. Amos foretells a day of reckoning for nations that revel in immorality. Blessed beyond all nations with prosperity and freedom, we are poised like the Roman Empire before its fall. If this permissive lifestyle persists, judgment will come.
As Christ’s followers, we need men like Amos to warn us of the day of reckoning that will surely come.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, have mercy on our nation and send a prophet like Amos to awaken those who cannot hear! Amen.
