God Calling Yet
Devotion
God calling yet; and shall I give
No heed, but still in bondage live?
I wait, but he does not forsake;
He calls me still: my heart awake!
Ah, yield Him all; in him confide
Where but in Him doth peace abide?
Break loose, let earthly bonds be riven,
And let the spirit rise to heaven!
…Vain world, farewell! From thee I part
The voice of God has reached my heart!
We are called to relinquish dependence on riches and pleasures in this world and trust in a gracious and loving God. Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust consume, and thieves break through and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and thieves do not break in and steal." If you give a cup of cold water to the thirsty in the name of Jesus, you have laid up treasure in heaven.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, rescue us from the deceitfulness of riches. Help us to be content with what you have given us, and to share with others. Amen.
