Verse 16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, Verse 17got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. Verse 18The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. Verse 19When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified. Verse 20But he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid."
Devotion
“…when they hear Him saying ‘It is I,’…their eyes are opened so that they recognize Christ with all fear removed. This is what seeing the Lord face to face means, namely, to be brought back from hell and to be conducted into heaven, so that the heart concludes: ‘I do not now have God cursing me in His anger but blessing me and propitious.’” (Luther’s Works 6, 151)
Prayer
Lord, we thank you that in Christ you bless us and remove our fear. We ask that you may sustain this faith and hope in us. Amen.
