Verse 1O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Verse 2So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
Verse 3Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
Verse 4So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name.
Devotion
Have you ever been desperate for a sign or word from God? Have you ever felt that you simply could not go on without God? The psalmist understands that depth of longing, and these words remind us that we, too, may discover God when we worship with others. The rhythm of weekly prayer and preaching give us stamina for the times when our lives are weary and strained. We can live with confidence and hope because God is as faithful as the psalmist proclaims. What memories of God’s nearness and love sustain you this day?
Prayer
God of power and glory, we thank you for your never-failing love. When we lose heart, help us to hear afresh your words of promise and hope. We pray today for all those who are in despair, those who feel abandoned or rejected and all those who do not yet know your redeeming grace; for Christ’s sake. Amen.
