That Priceless Grace, ELW 591
That priceless grace, that priceless grace, that priceless grace, which gave me life:
Jesus’ life is priceless grace,
That priceless grace is life for me.
That priceless blood, that priceless blood, that priceless blood was shed for me:
Jesus blood is priceless grace.
That priceless grace is life for me.
That painful death, that painful death, that painful death took sins away;
Jesus’ death is priceless grace,
That priceless grace is life for me.
That precious word, that precious word, that precious word, which brought me light:
Jesus’ word is priceless grace,
That priceless grace is life for me.
Devotion
At the beginning of every summer, an insert goes in our bulletin asking for members and friends to choose their favorite hymn. We then announce the top ten hymn/song choices of the congregation, and we attempt to sing everyone’s choice at some point throughout the summer. I always warn people that they need to attend every Sunday or they might miss singing their favorite. It also makes for some interesting summer singing, such as, “Joy to the World.” Since choosing hymns can be a difficult task, I commend this practice to you.
Not surprising, many of the old standards are chosen—“Beautiful Savior,” “A Mighty Fortress”—but other new songs are also chosen. One of Gloria Dei’s favorites is “That Priceless Grace.”
“That Priceless Grace” is the reason we exist, as individuals, and certainly as communities of faith. I am a person so influenced by the values of the world; I need this constant, daily reminder that this is our song and our purpose.
Martin Luther reminds us that critical to understanding Holy Communion are those two simple words, “for you.” Priceless.
Prayer
