Devotion
God does not send us out alone. If we rely solely on ourselves in this life, we will do nothing but stumble and fall, unable to see where we are going. And yet God's light is not always like the sun in a cloud-free sky. This psalm describes God's word as a "lamp" and a "light to my path." A lamp provides some illumination, but will not show you everything at once in a darkened room or seemingly starless night.
God does not promise us a clear path or complete knowledge of the future, but God does accompany us always, lighting the way as we encounter all of life's mysteries. Take comfort not in certainty but in God's light and presence amidst all of the surprises, hills and valleys along your path.
Prayer
Holy one, help us to see your light in our lives and to trust in your presence no matter where we may go. Amen.
