Chapter 9But there will be no gloom for those who were in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. Verse 2The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness- on them light has shined. Verse 3You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder. Verse 4For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
Devotion
There are times when we, too, walk in darkness. Illness, discouragement, grief, or despair can lead us into seasons in which we find ourselves living in deep darkness. We cry for deliverance from the brokenness. We yearn for the light to shine in the dark. We long for God's presence in our perceived isolation. And then epiphanies happen.
We see a great light in the compassion of a caregiver. Light shines on us in the encouragement of a trusted friend. Our joy increases with gratitude as healing comes and hope is renewed. And we bask in the warmth of God's nearness and the glow of Christ's radiance. Delivered and restored, we reflect God's light so others may see as they make their way through their dark places. Healed and renewed, we shine so others may sense Christ's loving presence.
Prayer
Lord of light, shine on all who need your loving care. Help me to be your light for those I encounter and walk with today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
