Chapter 1In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, Verse 2the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
Verse 3Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. Verse 4And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. Verse 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Devotion
Here’s some fun in the new world of digital connections. While in a Zoom meeting, to break the monotony, say loudly, “Alexa, play ‘Stairway to Heaven,’” then listen. There’s a good chance someone’s interactive device will begin playing. Just some good, clean fun (thank you, Bishop Holmerud, for that inspiration!).
We now live in a voice-activated world. One’s phone, smart speaker, television, car, and more, are all at the command of one’s voice. Isn’t technology amazing!
Yet, what stands above all this is the voice of God. “Let there be light.” Modern technology can’t match that!
And God still speaks today. “Your sins are forgiven.” “This is my body and blood given for you.” “My peace I give to you.” God continues to speak into the world and such words are, for us, greater than the power of the light from the sun.
And it is good.
Prayer
God of word and speech, continue to speak into our lives and our world that your light may shine, and by its radiance we might find our way to you. Amen.
