Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Devotion
One of the hymns that brings me great joy in life is Psalm 150. Reading Psalm 150 evokes memories of singing “Praise Ye the Lord” in worship—with organ sounds rocking the sanctuary and the people lifting their voices to heaven in joyous song. Psalm 150 is in the perfect place as the last hymn in the Psalter. Its message is clear: at the end of our lives, after all is said and done, all we have left to do is praise God. Not with a weak thank you but with a full band and loud, clashing cymbals. We praise God for giving us the gift of life. We praise God because God has been with us for every step of our journey. We praise God because God never gave up on us, even when we chased after idols. We praise God because God has given us everything we need to walk our earthly way. “Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”
Prayer
Remind me that I am yours, O God. Amen.
