Soon and Very Soon (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 439)
1 Soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King,
soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King,
soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we’re goin’ to see the King!
2 No more cryin’ there, we are goin’ to see the King,
no more cryin’ there, we are goin’ to see the King,
no more cryin’ there, we are goin’ to see the King.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we’re goin’ to see the King!
3 No more dyin’ there, we’re goin’ to see the King,
no more dyin’ there, we’re goin’ to see the King,
no more dyin’ there, we’re goin’ to see the King.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we’re goin’ to see the King!
4 Soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King,
soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King,
soon and very soon we are goin’ to see the King.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, we’re goin’ to see the King!

Devotion
This haunting, beautiful song written by Andraé Crouch and included in the “End Time” section of our hymnal assures us of the coming of our Lord. However, “soon and very soon” may still give us pause as we ask, “How long, oh Lord, how long must we wait for this glorious time?” In our war-torn world, can we even imagine a place where there is no crying or dying? After thousands of years of constant war, can we imagine a time of peace? Where is our hope that this will happen soon? Scripture tells us that “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2 Peter 3:8) That may require a lot more waiting than we desire. May we patiently wait to see the King and meanwhile continue to build God’s kingdom here on earth.
Prayer
King of Kings, how we long to see you face to face. No one knows the day or hour that will happen, so may we be in constant preparation of basking in your love and grace. Amen—may it be so for all of your people!
