For a future church leader, the road to ministry may begin with finding Luther’s death mask during a seminary scavenger hunt. Or with a care package received at Camp Minne-Wa-Kan. Or with Donut Church.
Planting seeds to help young people and their leaders connect to Luther Seminary is a joyful part of the work to build up future generations of ministry leaders. The seminary’s admissions team works creatively year-round to connect with prospective students—those actively considering enrollment as well as those for whom theological education may be much further in the future. This outreach includes:
- Campus visits for middle and high school youth and youth group leaders from all across the region
- Immersion experiences for young adults that incorporate text study, spiritual practices, and community worship
- More than 85 care packages sent to counselors and other staff at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries this summer
- Connecting with thousands of young people curious about faith at the ELCA Youth and Young Adult Gatherings
“We help young people start thinking theologically and ask themselves, ‘What is seminary and why would someone go?’” said Jen Gruendler, associate director for enrollment services.
