Verse 11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; Verse 12the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; Verse 13let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Verse 14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Chapter 14Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions.
Devotion
Many people like to set goals. That way they can see where they are and where they are going. Paul seems to get in on this act when he announces that the night is far spent and that our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Advent is only about six days gone, and already we are closer to the goal. Night is receding and day is at hand. It is time to put on the armor of light.
Prayer
O God, you are as close to us as our next breath; yet you are also a cosmic God. For you a thousand years—and a thousand miles—are all alike; but we who are travelers through time and space still pray, “Come Lord Jesus, be our guest.” Amen.
