Verse 12"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Verse 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Verse 14He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. Verse 15All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Devotion
Yesterday's devotion declared that Romans 5:1-5 would be enough, and that is true. But God is profligate. A whole big Bible describes God's dealings with his people. We search the scriptures and find an ever-expanding faith and understanding through the tutelage of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told his apostles that they were not ready for the whole load all at once. Followers of Jesus are always "becoming." The Spirit keeps us looking ahead. The Spirit helps us to know the truth, trust in God's future, and strive for righteousness. How do we know it is the Spirit that speaks to us? The Spirit glorifies Jesus. You can see if that inner word that comes to you squares with Jesus' life and teaching. What belongs to God belongs to Jesus, and the Spirit of God uses that Gospel treasure to sustain and build our faith in the Triune God. There is always more to come!
Prayer
Holy Spirit of God, keep us your disciples. Protect us from the evil one and all his temptations. Help us to see and share the glory you have prepared through Christ our Lord. Amen
