LBW #230, "Lord, Keep Us Steadfast In Your Word"
Devotion
This marvelous hymn by Martin Luther has helped believers voice their prayers and praise to God for nearly 500 years. Like Luther, the hymn is sturdy and to the point. Three short verses are addressed to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They give expression to our deepest hopes and prayers. The first calls on God to keep us steadfast in faith in the face of the relentless enemy. The second asks the Lord Jesus to make known his power so we can sing his praise triumphantly. The third summons the Spirit to bring peace and unity on earth and then lead us out of death to life.
Prayer is always the Christian's native air. Whether sung or spoken, this hymn helps us express our heartfelt yearnings. The words are strong! The tune is clear! God is near!
Prayer
Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word! Amen.
