Verse 12"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Verse 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Verse 14He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. Verse 15All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Devotion
The Spirit of truth guides you into all truth.
We are all tempted to seek a truth that is obvious, certain, the result of human logic; a truth that can be captured with words, so we can stand back and say, "That is the truth!"
The truth brought by the Spirit is personal, relational. It is the Spirit of God that draws us to the living Jesus through faith. We hear the words of Jesus, "I am the truth," and by the work of the Spirit we respond very personally to who he is. It is the Spirit of God that enables us to believe that God became incarnate in the person of Jesus the Christ. So week after week, we confess our faith in God the Father Almighty; and in Jesus, his only son, our Lord, made known to us by God the Spirit. That is the truth about God that has claimed and sustained the church of Christ in all generations. Now it is your privilege to claim the truth!
Prayer
We thank you, Creator God, that you have made life personal, that it is possible to trust and love. Help us above all to trust and love you, our Maker and Redeemer. Amen.
