LBW #165, "Holy, Holy, Holy"
Devotion
Some of us grew up singing this hymn every Sunday morning as we began our worship service. With Trinity Sunday in the offing, it is especially appropriate for today's devotion. The three-fold refrain shouts our praises to the Triune God. "Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit," we sing. Then come the marvelous verses. We join with all the saints and heavenly creatures in praising God. We acknowledge that our sin prevents us from seeing fully the glory of God, but it does not prevent us from knowing that God is in charge. The last verse avers that all the mighty works of God join in praising the merciful and mighty Triune God. It is an individual song of praise, but it makes clear that we join a mighty throng, and the whole creation, in singing, "Holy, holy, holy!"
Prayer
We praise you, mighty and loving God, for the treasure of hymns with which we may praise you. And we thank you for all the saints who join us in singing them. Amen.
