WOV #604, "Kyrie"
Devotion
Senor, ten piedad. (Lord, have mercy.)
Cristo, ten piedad. (Christ, have mercy.)
Senor, ten piedad. (Lord, have mercy.)
On this day and on any day, the prayer for mercy echoes around the world. In Greek, Spanish and English, in hundreds of languages and millions of hearts, the community of faith cries for mercy.
For centuries, this has been a fundamental prayer of the people of God. Whenever the community of faith gathers, it prays. The people of God name before God all who need mercy and love and transformation – the world, the church itself and all those in need.
The cry for mercy becomes not only a confession of our sin and brokenness, but also our confession of faith and our proclamation that God indeed does have mercy. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Source of mercy and love, forgive us for our own lack of mercy. Help us to be more like you, generous in love and forgiveness. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.
