LBW #294, "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less"
Devotion
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are most recent examples in our nation’s history of the sheer destruction that can be wrought by a natural disaster. Homes and businesses, churches and schools, vehicles and even lives were washed away. People were left dumbfounded and destitute, wondering what they would now call home, work, play and life.
When all has been washed away, what hope is there? Where can one find solace and balm in the face of such hopelessness?
Our hope is not found in things that can be washed away. Our hope is not even something that we can find, but rather finds us. For Jesus Christ is our hope. He knows the destructive powers that are unleashed on this earth. He walks through those deep waters with us, promising that nothing will ever separate us from him or his love for us.
Prayer
Gracious God, when the waters threaten to undo us, help us to rest in our only hope, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
