Devotion

Commemoration of James of Jerusalem

I come from a long line of people whose vocation was to build and to teach others to build. From these family members, I have learned the importance of choosing the right materials and using the proper methods to build things that will last. But while I can appreciate all of these things, I was not given the gifts necessary for this line of work. This has given me a deeper appreciation not only for this gift but also for those who possess it.

Jesus Christ is the One who builds us together around the word and sacraments, through which he comes to us to forgive our sins completely. He builds us upon the promise that his death and resurrection is for each of us. Jesus Christ not only builds the community that bears his name, he is our foundation that will last.
