LBW #314, "Who is this Host Arrayed in White?"
Devotion
In congregations of Norwegian heritage, this hymn is still sung in the original Danish words, "Den Store Hvide Flok," especially at funerals for older members.
This anthem, which I sang with the concert choir at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, was written by Hans Brorson (1694-1764) and set to a 17th century Norwegian folk tune.
The hymn depicts the gathering of God's people for their final rest. Reflecting such scenes in the book of Revelation, it is fitting for All Saints' Sunday. As one who loves such great hymns, I find that an exciting future.
Can you imagine, singing a concert of praise to the Lord every day? It sweetens the anticipation.
Prayer
Lord God, accept the praise we offer to you today, tomorrow and forever. Amen.
