Day by Day, ELW 790
1 Day by day, your mercies, Lord, attend me, bringing comfort to my anxious soul.
Day by day, the blessings, Lord, you send me draw me nearer to my heav'nly goal.
Love divine, beyond all mortal measure, brings to naught the burdens of my quest;
Savior, lead me to the home I treasure, where at last I'll find eternal rest.
2 Day by day, I know you will provide me strength to serve and wisdom to obey;
I will seek your loving will to guide me o'er the paths I struggle day by day.
I will fear no evil of the morrow, I will trust in your enduring grace.
Savior, help me bear life's pain and sorrow till in glory I behold your face.
3 Oh, what joy to know that you are near me when my burdens grow too great to bear;
oh, what joy to know that you will hear me when I come, Oh Lord, to you in prayer.
Day by day, no matter what betide me, you will hold me ever in your hand.
Savior, with your presence here to guide me, I will reach at last the promised land.
Devotion
Some folks just have a tough life, no doubt about it. But that does not mean that they are the ones you most often hear complaining about it. They may have learned that when people say, “How are you?” they do not want to find out. So how do you cope with the “evil morrow, pain, sorrow?”
What a relief to meet the One who never hangs up on you in the middle of your tears. A divine presence amidst harsh circumstances makes all the difference. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is a future beyond this present age. It is not just pie in the sky. It is the fulfilling of the most important of all our relationships. We will actually see His face and be with Jesus who is already there.
Prayer
Lord, each day is different. Some are full of joy. Others weigh us down with sadness. We could not bear such pain alone and we know we do not need to. You are always listening when we pray and give us answers beyond our expectations. We can hardly wait to be in that heavenly world one day. Amen.
