Devotion
Why is it that often, the more we succeed, the emptier our lives feel? We strive for success, but as we do, our lives become more about us. Can success actually be dangerous? The wisdom literature in the book of Proverbs seems to be warning us about getting caught up in a smaller world where our lives are all about putting ourselves in the place of the great. Instead, there is another way to live. There is a way where life is more than just personal success. It is a way where we look beyond ourselves to the needs of others, a way where our world is expanding because we are sharing all that is good, true and right. It is the way of life that Jesus Christ died and rose again so that we may have it and have it abundantly.
Prayer
Gracious God of humility and love, by your Spirit lead us into a life where we are able to look beyond ourselves and to the needs of others. Cleanse our hearts of pride and fill them with the compassion and mercy that are found in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
