Verse 7"Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, 'Come here at once and take your place at the table'? Verse 8Would you not rather say to him, 'Prepare supper for me, put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink'? Verse 9Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded? Verse 10So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, 'We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!'"
Devotion
Christ fully embraced a life of servitude. He calls us to trust him completely, roll up our sleeves, and do likewise. Countless people around the world need us to serve and share our assets. It requires God working through all our united efforts to meet our sisters’ and brothers’ great needs.
I am part of a movement of people with many varied gifts, experiences and insights who are working side by side to contain malaria. We are able to move forward to meet our common goal by sharing our resources and the materials we develop. A wise pastor mused that we can accomplish much more if we are humble and do not waste time fretting about who receives personal credit. Whenever God calls us to meet enormous needs, we must trust God, rejoice in the gifts our Lord bestows on us, work together, and remember we do only what we ought to do!
Prayer
Servant Lord, we praise and thank you for your infinite love with which you suffered and died for our sins. Without seeking recognition for ourselves, help us to accept your call to work together to serve you and our neighbors. Amen.
